ACCESSING OUR WEB PAGES

Each time a page of our website is accessed our web servers temporarily store the following information in a log file:

IP address of the computer making the request

Name, URL and transferred data quantity of the retrieved file

DATA IN THIS LOG FILE ARE PROCESSED AS FOLLOWS:

The log entries are continuously analyzed automatically in order to reveal attacks on the web server and respond accordingly.

In particular cases, i.e. in the case of reported problems, errors and security incidents, a manual analysis is carried out. Log entries older than seven days are rendered anonymous by truncating the IP address. The anonymized logs are used to generate access statistics utilizing software locally at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

This website uses Piwik, an open-source software for statistical analysis of page visitor requests. Piwik uses so-called “cookies”, text files that are stored on your computer and that enable the analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this site is stored on the provider’s server in Germany. The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing and prior to its storage. If you do not wish to have cookies placed on your computer, you should set your browser to refuse cookies before using our website, with the drawback that certain features of the website may not function properly without the aid of cookies.
